Access – Getting there

Located in Switzerland, 90km from Geneva, just as you enter the canton of Valais, the peaks of the Dents-du-Midi chain tower over the French-Swiss Chablais.

ACCESS TO THE DEPARTURE POINTS FOR THE TOUR DES DENTS-DU-MIDI

The Dents-du-Midi mountain range watches over the French-Swiss Chablais and lies on Swiss soil at the entrance to the canton of Valais, 90 kilometers from Geneva.

The starting points of the circuit are accessible by car, train and PostBus via Aigle, Chamonix (F), Martigny, Monthey or St-Maurice:

  • Champéry
    By car: A9 motorway, exit at Saint-Triphon, follow signs to “Pas de Morgins” then Champéry
    By train : CFF to Aigle, then regional train AOMC (TPC) to Champéry

  • Champéry-Barme
    From Champéry to Barme : shuttle bus (ideal for rapid trail access, get out at the stop “Pour Bonavau“)
  • Mex
    By car: A9 motorway, exit at Saint-Maurice, follow signs to Mex
    By train:  CFF to Saint-Maurice, then PostBus to Mex
    Accommodation in Mex : Auberge Armailli and La Maison des Fées
  • Monthey-Les Giettes
    By car: A9 motorway, exit at Saint-Triphon, follow signs to Monthey then Les Giettes
    By train train: CFF to Aigle, then regional train AOMC (TPC) to Monthey and then PostBus to Les Giettes

  • Saint-Maurice
    By car: A9 motorway, exit at Saint-Maurice
    By train: CFF then PostBus to Saint-Maurice

  • Salvan-Van d’en Haut
    By car: A9 motorway, exit at Martigny, follow signs for Salvan
    By train : CFF to Martigny, change to Mont Blanc Express regional train to Salvan, then by bus “Vallon de Van” (from June to Septembre – dates and timetables online) to the Van d’en Haut campsite.
  • Vérossaz-La Doey
    By car: A9 motorway, exit at Bex, follow signs to Vérossaz
    By train : CFF to Saint-Maurice, then PostBus to Vérossaz

Depending on snow conditions, the Dents-du-Midi circuit is practicable from June to October. At the beginning of the season, check on snow conditions at the Susanfe pass, on the Salanfe side. Snow remains there for the longest. In general, only the “Winter Path” is accessible until the beginning of July.
